Philippines’ club gets grant to aid flood victims

Sep 19, 2018

After two successive typhoons devastated low-lying areas of the Philippines, the Kiwanis Club of Sta. Cruz Laguna in the Philippine Luzon District reached out to the Kiwanis Children's Fund for help.

Typhoons Henry and Inday hit Santa Cruz, Laguna, and neighboring Candelaria with 10 days of heavy rain and high wind. The towns were without electricity, and many people were forced to evacuate because of rising tides. Not only did these people lose their homes, but the storms prevented many people from working.

The Kiwanis club sought to help 2,000 to 2,500 families. With its grant, the club was able to provide the families with food, including rice, milk and noodles, bottled water, clothing, first aid supplies, cleaning supplies, toiletries and candles.

“Receiving a Children’s Fund grant to help out my community folks is like a dream,” says Kiwanis member Zenaida Bueno Morales.
