Thanksgiving fundraising idea
Leaves are beginning to change. Temperatures have dropped. And we have officially entered the season of the pumpkin. It all means one thing for those in the United States: Thanksgiving is almost here. And it is time to start planning your holiday fundraiser.

Consider hosting turkey bingo. It’s a festive take on the traditional fundraiser. Instead of—or in addition to—cash prizes, winners receive a turkey for their Thanksgiving dinner. Take notes from the Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley, Nevada, which hosted its 25th annual turkey bingo last fall. Or make it fit with your community. What are local traditions during November in December? If you live outside of the United States, consider another holiday for the theme.

However you decide to play, here are tips to get started:
  • First things first, inquire about your state’s gaming laws. To protect your club, make sure there’s a licensed facilitator at the event.
  • Choose a date and book a venue.
  • Set an admission fee. Consider selling an admission package that includes event entry, enough bingo sheets for each round and one drink ticket.
  • Select the bingo caller.
  • Create festive bingo cards, or find a free version online.
  • Purchase or borrow a bingo cage set with balls.
  • Purchase markers.
  • Order food and drinks to sell.
  • Recruit volunteers, including runners, callers, cashiers, food servers and cleanup crews.
