What is a charitable gift annuity?

Sep 21, 2016

You’ve heard of planned giving. And you probably know that you have several options. But how do you know which option is best for you?

One of the most popular choices is a charitable gift annuity: In exchange for a donation of cash or assets to the Kiwanis International Foundation, the donor gets a fixed annual income for life. Even beyond the security of additional income during retirement years, it offers a number of tax advantages. For instance, the donor receives an immediate tax deduction for the amount of the gift, minus the expected amount received through payments. A portion of those payments is non-taxable income. It can also be used to reduce the financial burden of estate taxes or some capital gains taxes.

Above all, of course, there’s the impact: A charitable gift annuity ensures the donor's  legacy will be extended far into the future, even beyond his or her lifetime. Charitable gift annuities support our foundation’s endowment—providing revenue for grants that support life-changing projects. It’s another way for you to help Kiwanians serve the children of the world . . . forever.
