District Matching Grant Program

In an effort to provide support for local, district-level club opening and club counseling/coaching events, The Formula has created a district matching grant program.

To ensure accountability and alignment with The Formula, the following criteria has been established.

Criteria of a club opening event

  • Open new sites–establish Kiwanis in new communities or to new people in existing communities.
  • Educate additional Formula team members on how to invite people to join Kiwanis.
  • Host the club-opening event in a location where at least two (2) sites can be opened.
  • Minimum participation requirement of two (2) teams of two (2) club openers per site.
  • Participants commit to invite new members to their own home club.
  • Participants commit to open a new club in their home division.

Criteria of a club counseling/coaching event

  • Host the club counseling/coaching event in a location that has a minimum of four local clubs to participate in coaching during the event.
  • Minimum participation requirement of 12 counselors/coaches to work with local clubs and commit to working with club in home division.
  • Participants commit to adhere to a specific timeline of counseling activities which include regular meetings with club leaders, attend club meetings and regular communications with the lieutenant governor.

Who can apply?

  • Any North American district is eligible to apply.
  • Each district may submit more than one application during the year. However, subsequent grants will not be awarded until the goals of the first grant are accomplished.

How does it work?

  • The proposed club opening or counseling/coaching event must be initiated and completed within the 2016-17 administrative year (October 1, 2016-September 30, 2017).
  • Grant selection will be made based on the quality of the application, measurable objectives and the support of all district leaders.
  • A minimum of 50% district matching funds or in-kind contributions are required.
  • Grants will be approved by members of The Formula Leadership Team and members of the Kiwanis International Membership & Education Committee.
  • Grants will be reviewed as they are received and awarded on a competitive basis.
  • If the grant is approved, Kiwanis International will distribute the first 50% of the grant amount at the time of approval. The final 50% of the grant will be awarded after the measurable objectives are reached (i.e., clubs opened, club counseling/coaching goals achieved).

  • Complete the grant application.
  • The application must be approved by the district Board and signed by The Formula District Chair, District Governor and Governor-elect and must include a proposed event budget.
  • Please email your application to: tday@kiwanis.org

What is the average monetary range to be reimbursed?

  • US$1,000 to US$7,500
  • Should a District receive this grant funding, it’s in addition to the $4,000 allocated to each District Formula Chair for appropriate expenditures
  • The District must have matching funds that are not coming from the $4,000 allocated from the Formula.

How will the funds be managed?

  • Once a grant application is approved, the district is responsible for implementing the club opening or club counseling/coaching event and paying any vendor(s).

All reimbursement requests and supporting items must be submitted to Kiwanis International via e-mail by September 5, 2017 to: tday@kiwanis.org.
