50 years of Kamp Kiwanis

May 01, 2018
kamp kiwanis1On March 4, Kamp Kiwanis and the New York District Foundation celebrated their 50th anniversary with an event which drew 500 supporters. The Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst has been sending local children to Kamp Kiwanis since its founding and they show no signs of slowing down.

“We raise funds through our annual St. Patrick’s Day dinner & raffle to send kids to camp. This year, our club was selected as one of four local organizations to benefit from the 2018 Hemstock Festival fundraiser so now we can send even more kids to Kamp Kiwanis.” says Ralph Somma, President-elect of the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst.

The annual Hemstock Festival – now in its tenth year – is a boating festival which takes place at Hemlock Cove in New York. The Hemstock Festival isn’t your ordinary fundraiser. It brings a community of caring individuals together on the South Shore of Long Island for a day of music and boating. What started in 2008 with 30 boats in the cove has turned into well over 400 boats and support for local charities, like Kiwanis, continues to grow, which will result in more kids attending Kamp Kiwanis.

Kamp Kiwanis is situated on 102 acres of open and wooded land in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. It provides fun, physical exercise and adventure to children throughout New York State. It strives to afford opportunities to participate in a creative outdoor group experience and develop characteristics of leadership and fair play.

The Kamp features athletic fields, sleeping cabins, arts & crafts facilities, a library, swimming pool, nature trails, a pond for canoeing and fishing and so much more. For more information on Kamp Kiwanis, visit
