How 15 clubs are helping families recover after hurricanes

Nov 06, 2018

“We’re just trying to get ourselves back up now.”

“We lost practically everything.”

“There’s just so much destruction.”

These are the kinds of comments Kiwanis members hear as they work in communities in North Carolina and Florida, where Hurricanes Florence and Michael wreaked devastation in September and October.

The Kiwanis Children’s Fund has awarded grants to 15 clubs to help meet the needs of children and families in those areas. Many clubs are using the money to buy toiletries and cleaning items. Some clubs came together to collect clothes and school supplies for students. Another club fed first responders and community members.

“When disaster strikes, the Kiwanis family is there to help. So is the Kiwanis Children’s Fund,” says George Cadman, 2018-19 president. “With disaster relief grants, we’re helping clubs and districts meet crucial, immediate needs in the communities they serve.”
