In honor of the many students going back to school, we are proud to introduce two more of our 2015–16 scholarship recipients. Check the blog for more scholarship recipients’ stories as we celebrate these outstanding students.

The Himmel memorial scholarships were established in 1989 to benefit Key Club International and Circle K International members who devote themselves to serving their own communities and the world. Carley Going and Jessica Williams are this year’s deserving recipients. These young Kiwanis family leaders exemplify the values of service and leadership.

Carley, past president of the Gibbs High School Key Club, Florida, was an active member of numerous service and leadership organizations in her community. Carley recently started her first semester at Eckerd College in Florida where she will pursue a career in social work.

Jessica, who nearly lost her hearing as an infant, is a regular volunteer at the Central Institute for the Deaf. Inspired by past, Jessica plans to become a physician with a focus in speech, language and hearing. During the 2016–17 school year she will serve as co-president of the Circle K International club at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Himmel memorial scholarships were established by Harry S. Himmel, who joined Kiwanis in 1928 and eventually served in many leadership positions at various levels—including president of the Kiwanis International Foundation for 10 years. Harry was known for his extensive involvement in his community and in charitable causes, and for the impact he made on so many individuals. This scholarship remains in his memory to help young people achieve their goals.
