Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF FAQ

Sep 06, 2016

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is one of the most important fundraisers of the Kiwanis year. It’s Key Club’s annual fundraising initiative, but the entire Kiwanis family can participate. Again this year, funds raised through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF will go to The Eliminate Project. For less than the cost of a bag of Halloween candy, you can help provide a series of three doses of vaccine to protect a mother and her future newborns from maternal and neonatal tetanus.

WHERE CAN I GET SUPPLIES FOR TRICK-OR-TREATING?
If your club participated in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF in 2015, a box of supplies has already been shipped to you. If your club hasn’t received it (or didn’t participate last year), the advisor can order boxes from the Kiwanis store now.

WHAT CAN I SAY WHEN I AM TRICK-OR-TREATING?
Let potential donors know how important their donation is. You could say, “I am part of ________________ (name of school/Key Club), and I am participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. All donations are being used to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus around the world. For less than a bag of Halloween candy, we can provide necessary vaccines to protect a woman and her future newborns. Would you like to contribute?” Then don’t forget to thank them.

WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO BESIDES GO DOOR TO DOOR?
It doesn’t take much money or time to create a successful Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF fundraiser. Consider one of these ideas—or come up with your own! Be sure to share your story and photos by emailing them to campaign@TheEliminateProject.org, or by posting on Facebook and Twitter. Remember to use the hashtags #elimin8 and #ToT4UNICEF.

WHAT IF IT’S TOO LATE TO ORDER BOXES?
Don’t worry! You can print out Trick-or-Treat labels or make your own displays to let everyone know about your club’s activities and opportunities to donate.

WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE MONEY WE RAISE?

When your fundraising is done, send a check or money order (payable to the Kiwanis International Foundation) and your completed giving form to:

The Eliminate Project: Campaign Office
Kiwanis International Foundation
P.O. Box 6457 - Dept. #286
Indianapolis, IN 46206, USA

Write your club name or club number on the memo line of the check.

CAN MY CLUB GET RECOGNIZED?
Clubs that raise and submit more than US$250 by December 31, 2016, will receive a special banner patch.
